Are You In The Dark?
I am.
For decades, Bristol Tennessee Essential Services (BTES) has been bribing builders to forego installation of natural gas lines to new homes. The builder of my home was paid $300 in 2004. In 2026, Piney Flats developers are paid $2,100 per home.
Denying gas installation while requiring a $700 deposit to restore electricity has left me in the dark.

It’s crooked they won’t put a notice on my door, but will shut it off in a heartbeat. Time and time again I have to go borrow the money to put into a deposit of money I don’t have.
They don’t think about poor people.
When you go in and argue about their little fees and interest payments, it’s always a bimbo who has no idea what she is doing. When you call you can’t get anyone to help you out. The job and authority overrides their human empathy. I've looked them straight in the face and asked them, "Are you serious?" And they insist payment is necessary even though it was an emergency apartment switch. All she had to do was change two numbers, not even the full address: same complex, just a different set of two numbers. $375 or me and my kids were in the dark. Difference is I don’t have a choice to pay it.
I only moved into these apartments not long ago. They should have my old deposit, especially if I just cut the lights on this year. Didn't miss a payment, but couldn't get one co-signer because my family missed 1 payment in 6 months, thus causing the $375. If they just never charged, and used the old billing information and changed two numbers, I wouldn't be in such a financial mess.
